==History==
Scott County was formed in 1820 from portions of Clark, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, and Washington counties. It was named for Gen. Charles Scott, who was Governor of Kentucky from 1808 to 1812. Much of its water supply comes from Hardy Lake.
In March 2015, the worst outbreak of HIV in the state of Indiana's history was documented here, 142 cases by April 28, 2015.
Unemployment, a high school dropout rate, a high drug abuse rate, and a high teen pregnancy rate, which are factors that can raise the risk for acquiring HIV, have been problematic in the area.〔http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-rampant-drug-abuse-blamed-for-hiv-spike-in-southern-indiana-20150325-story.html#page=1〕 Governor Mike Pence authorized health officials to implement a needle exchange program.
